Modern and appropriate technology deployment programs are enablers supporting the safety, health and wellbeing of our people and the long-term sustainability of the mine. It is also central to achieving a fully-integrated, mechanised enterprise that is world-class.

For this reason, in 2017 South Deep implemented an Innovation and Technology initiative to modernise, integrate and optimise existing processes and systems.

The modernisation program is designed to enable the mine of the future, built-in robust communication infrastructure upgrades, a network backbone that facilitates remote and automated operations and processes. Collision protection and environmental monitoring systems ensure a safer working environment. In addition, renewable energy and battery electric vehicles support the objectives of a safer, greener and cleaner environment and mine.

The mine of the future will leverage both human and asset potential delivery, which is premised on automation and remote equipment operation, an integrated digital data platform enabling the use of real-time data to improve decision making, efficiencies and eliminate wastage across all our processes.
